Peeled potato. That is what many in Zimbabwe call me. Also 'monkey' and 'sope'. There are other names too depending on where you go. In Malawi, they call us 'biri'. They whisper that we are linked to witchcraft. In Tanzania, we are 'animal' or 'ghost' or 'white medicine'. Their witch doctors will pay handsomely for our limbs. In the DRC, they call us 'ndundu' - living dead. If a fisherman goes missing, they on us to find the body. Whereas to South Africans, we are 'inkawu', meaning ape, 'spierwit' or 'wit Boer'.
