-It was convicted of witchcraft-
Salem Massachusetts Magistrate Ferris relished sending the cursed demon witch to Gallows Hill. The man standing before him showed no remorse, no concern for the victims of witchcraft. He even boasted about his crimes.
A pious puritan, the Magistrate could almost feel pleased with his decision. If ever a man deserved death… Seconds later, he would find out, to his horror, what the accused man gained in his deal with the devil.
-It returns throughout time-
In the woods beneath Dunbar’s Ridge revolutionary patriots save the New England town of Taylorville from a British slaughter. Was a legendary warlock involved in the massacre that ensued?
Tales of that night’s victory and the hero ghosts must share this haunted ground with warnings of the Backwoods Demon.
-It is back-
Jeff Strickland will be tempted. Lured by everything he wants most. Real devils do not ask for a bloody signature on a contract for your soul. They distract you with toys and presents, then take want they want in a demon’s bargain. Piece by piece.
But Jeff’s soul will not be so easy to take. He will resist the psychic possession, he will fight, and he will not be alone.
-It will kill again-
Elliot Ryan is also aware of a secret horror in the woods near the Ridge, and under them. The townsfolk of Taylorville remembered the legends as fiction, mere stories. Elliot felt the evil try to creep into his mind. Probe the dark corners. Even as he explored the caves and tunnels under the backwoods and sensed the evil hiding there.
Elliot and the presence become aware, and wary of each other.
-And again-
Jeff and Elliot each fight their private battles with supernatural experiences that neither can truly accept as real. But others are being tempted with the same demon’s bargains. Some of them will not resist. As our heroes come of age, the death toll around them rises.
-And again-
Now Elliot’s young son is sensing a presence. Now Jeff must return to this haunted ground. Now these two men meet. If they will not hunt with this ancient evil, they will be hunted by it.
-On the ridge, evil never dies-
