Lowcountry

A 2,600 word story about religion and revenge in a sadistic backwater community right after the Civil War. In it, a young mother, Eloise Dixon, is murdered in cold blood by her vicious husband. Decades later, when an old friend sees Eloise's daughter about to follow in her mother's footsteps, she does something drastic to stop the abusive marriage.
