Built between 1936 and 1939 on the outskirts of Cologne, the Hermann Goering Barracks housed German anti-aircraft and engineering units until the end of the war. After the war, the barracks were briefly used as a POW camp but in 1946, Belgian occupation troops moved in--and didn't leave until 1992. In that time, besides upkeep, little renovation was done to the buildings. Boris Becker, who had studied with Bernd Becher, grew up next to the barracks and when they were abandoned, documented the buildings on the previously inaccessible site. His father, Jurgen Becker, a well-known German poet and writer, contributed the poem to this volume. 52 pages; 29 b&w plates plus a map of the compound; 9.5 x 12 inches. Text in German.
